Choosing the Offerings
- Begin small and affordable. Offerings such as cool tap water in a clear glass, time, or coffee/tea, are a great place to start and require minimal items and space.
- Work with your budget and your availability.
Present the Offering
- When presenting an offering on your altar or to your spirits, say a few words.
- I suggest offering gratitude and explaining why you’re presenting a specific offering.
- This aids you in developing your ability to communicate with them.
Disposing of Offerings
- Over time you will learn to distinguish when offerings need to be replaced.
- Notice the energy and vitality of an offering prior to presenting it. Keep an eye on the item after you make your offering and notice when it begins to decrease in vitality. That is when you may want to dispose of it.
- Traditionally, offerings that were done were meant to be tossed in flowing water. Now we use the trash or Earth. Give gratitude and be respectful.
Optional Exercise (Shared after reading of Mat Auryn’s experience in doing this exercise)
- Buy two of the same fruit: an apple for example. Make sure you buy them from the same place and same bin. If you can’t run to the store or are low on funds, then make two cups of coffee or tea.
- Clean or prepare both of the items in the same way.
- Take one item, and present it as an offering on your altar. Take the second item or cup and place it somewhere randomly in the house with no intention.
- Let both of these sit and notice the difference between what you have placed on your altar with intention and what you have placed somewhere randomly with no intention.
