1️⃣ Set the scene around you by adding sensory elements that help you feel connected spiritually. Some suggestions: Diffusing a specific scent or lighting specific incense, lighting a candle, or adding background music.
⭐ I recommend having as few things as possible. I understand that some folks, depending on if they're neurodivergent and in what ways, may not physically be able to do this. If it is slightly challenging in a good way, I encourage you to do this. If it is challenging in a physically uncomfortable or impossible way, I would say avoid it.
2️⃣ Once you have the space ready, perform a small cleansing. From there, you can place a small offering in front of you like a glass of cold water, or a few bites of a snack.
3️⃣ When you feel ready, take a few deep breaths to settle into your body and make sure you're grounded.
4️⃣ Call in your protective spirits first. You can say "I call in my guardian angels (substitute language that feels right: protective spirits or specific deities). Then call in your ancestors or spirit guides. You can say something along the lines of: "I call in my spirit guides. I seek to build a connection with you. I invite you to communicate with me in a way that is comfortable and that I will understand."
5️⃣ Afterwards, simply sit and be patient. Notice any sensations or thoughts you have. People often expect spirit communication to be very in your face, but it's often loud in other ways. You may hear a song pop up in your head that you can't ignore, or you may feel a sensation on your skin that causes goosebumps. It's really going to depend on whether or not you are afraid, and on your personal and natural way of spiritually communicating.
6️⃣ Have a notebook nearby or a way to record your insights.
